In the present there are no regrets as there are in the past. By thinking of the future you dilute the present. The time to live is now. ~ Master Bong Soo Han (Korean Martial Artist)
But I don’t know how to.
Of course you do, everybody can focus.
No, seriously, I try and try but I get distracted so easily…
How do you know that you get distracted?…
Well, when I attempt to hit a shot, I find my mind wandering and my attention shifts away from where I want to hit my shot to.
So you’re telling me that you don’t have the ability to focus your attention for fifteen seconds?…
Pardon me?…
That’s right-fifteen seconds…
That can’t be right, I’m trying to focus for much longer than that!
Why fifteen seconds?
Well, you only need to maintain your attention from the time you walk in to hit your shot. A golf swing takes about two seconds, which is not very long. In fact tour professionals take between ten and fifteen seconds to hit their shot, so you don’t need to focus for very long do you?…
I guess not.
I know that a lot of amateur golfers think that you should concentrate from the first hole to the last hole but that simply isn’t true. And anyway, who could possibly maintain their concentration for that long?…
No one?…
Absolutely right.
What should I focus on when I hit my shot?
Good question; you should focus on exactly what you would like your golf ball to do.
So you shouldn’t focus on your golf swing?
No, you focus on exactly what you want your golf ball to do!
Is that it?
That’s it.
Ok, I can do that.
Of course you can.
Until next time,

As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much: There is no matter as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.
- German Physicist Max Planck

It's ALL in Your Mind
If the mind is the matrix of all matter (stuff) as Max Planck suggests, then just imagine for a moment the possibilities of that statement for you. If you could change how you represent any golf experience to yourself, then you could literally change ANY aspect of your golf performance…WOW!
Instead of creating the same level of reality over and over, (eg. slice into the trees on the 15th) you can change the direction of your intention (mental force) and create an entirely different outcome. So instead of generating the same old negative thoughts about a particular aspect of your game, you simply focus your attention on what you want SPECIFICALLY, and practice it CONSISTENTLY, and you WILL generate a new and better reality for yourself.
So the number one key to golf confidence is to focus specifically and practice consistently. This means you decide exactly what you want to achieve with your game and then rehearse the outcome you desire over and over consciously. Eventually (well, it shouldn’t take you that long) your unconscious mind will accept the command and help you to generate the results you are striving for.
We’ll continue to explore this concept in my next post.
